Hi guys! So, I wanted to come on here and go in depth behind the series that started my author journey, Whispers in the Dark.
This might sound corny, but the concept of Whispers came to me while I was daydreaming. While I was taking a walk I was listening to music and a random thought came into my head.
What if you saw someone fighting a monster right in front of you? Would you run? Would you fight? If you choose to fight, what would happen? If you choose to run, what would happen?
From there I started talking to myself about what if the scenerio happened. What went from 30 mins of talking to myself became almost 3 weeks.
At this point, I knew I had to write it as a story. With a lot of the negative energy I was dealing with at the time, I knew I wanted to post the story on Wattpad and call it a day.
I started drafting. Humans can’t see the demons and monsters unless you were born with the gift or if they scratch, bite, or they inflicted pain to that person. Orginally, I called them ‘seekers’.
As for the characters, one thing for sure I wanted a badass, female lead. Basically someone who represented my bad side. Keep in mind this was about five years ago and I was an angry teen back then.
I moved to a new state, didn’t know anyone and I was mad at the world. So I thought to make the character relatable to me, I wanted a tough, badass female who doesn’t like to listen to anyone, however, holds certain people in her life close to her.
Hence, the main character Nadia Genevieve was created.
Once my main character was here, I needed help in my other characters. Don’t get me wrong, I had the characters in as drafts and I knew I was stuck. So I did the next best thing. I got the courage to talk to a person who is now my best friend and writing partner in crime. She told me it wasn’t bad it needed some work. Almost everyday, before classes we would met up and talk about it, come up with new characters and how would the story go.
From there we brainstormed many ideas and kept them coming in Wattpad, until 2017, I made the decision to publish the book ourselves. In November 2018, Whispers was officially published. We were happy however, there’s still much work to be done. Currently book 1 is under heavy editing and a brand new version is coming soon. Along with book 2 on the aftermath.
I noticed that Whispers is the reason it brought us closer. Fun fact, for christmas she got me yin yang necklaces like in the book. I took the yin necklace as I gave her the yang one. I told her “Like how the sisters always have each others back, I’ll do the same.” I haven’t taken off the necklace to this day and neither has she. It’s amazes to know a story would bring together a strong friendship and I’m grateful for that.
So there you have it! It started as a daydream and became a reality for us. I discovered this story is truly special and I’m glad things went the way they did.
